This weeks Twisted Groove music selections were prompted by my purchase of some re-release vinyl from some fairly obscure Psychedelic bands. I purchased a few records of Os Mutantes and a record of The Red Crayola’s. Both of these bands play a unique take on Psychedelic music. These purchases were a springboard for me to dig through my vinyl collection and pick out companion tracks that would work well with these bands. 99.9 % of this weeks tracks were taken from vinyl records. It was really fun to take out a bunch of these records I hadn’t heard in a long time and give them a spin.

The first Twisted Groove show of 2010 is a rocking affair. I decided to start the New Year off with rocking good fun. For this show I was assisted with song selection from my fellow music lover Dana Brownrigg. I just come back from vacation from both work and radio. During my time off I contracted a few different viruses and was feeling sick and completely exhausted. That did not stop us from creating a beautiful show of both old and new rockin music to start off 2010.

Note: A avid listener has noted to me recently that the RSS feed only downloads the first set of each of my post so to cure this I will be creating a post for each hour of each show.

I recently invested in a large vinyl order from Luv n Haight records.   I also have been subscribing to the Numero Groups record subscription and have received some real cool records from them recently.  Both these label release very obscure and wonderful music.  Much of it in the funk, soul and rare groove vein.  I also recently watched an amazing documentary about Ahmet Ertegun called “The House That Ahmet Built”.  A very forward thinker, Ahmet built Atlantic Records by focusing on a vision of the future of music that was rock and roll, soul and funk.  He possessed great intelligence and insight in identifying and releasing great soul music.  With all of that inspiration, this week’s Twisted Groove features a bunch of rare groove, soul and funk from all the above sources among many others.  It is a super fun show. It is outta sight and dynomite.

I recently picked up the newest Nortec Collective disc which is over a year old now. It reminds me of seeing the exhibit of the de la Torre Brothers at the Hispanic Cultural Center some time back. Those guys are amazing artists blending new and old, fine art and folk art into a new fine art they call Meso-Americhanics. One of their pieces included the music of the Nortec Collective as part of the piece. Both the Nortec Collective and the de la Torre Brothers seem to be working from a similar artistic place evoking a comparable sensory response. This week’s Twisted Groove starts off with the blend of Latin and electronic music and moves from there.
