This weeks Twisted Groove was spawned by the new Philip Glass Rework_ record. The record of reworkings was curated by Beck who was asked by Philip Glass to assemble interpreters of his music for the record. Beck collected a great roster of artist including Beck himself, Tyondai Braxton, Amon Tobin, Cornelius, Dan Deacon, Johann Johannsson, Nosaj Thing, Memory Tapes, Silver Alert, Pantha Du Prince, My Great Ghost and Peter Broderick. The idea was for the new artist influenced by Glass to reinvent his music. Glass was quoted in the New York Times “I’m interested in what happens to music when other people use it. Whereas there are composers who don’t like anyone to touch their music, I think people should because they do things I can’t think of. I’m the opposite of being possessive about a piece.” Glass’s music is very influential in the world of electronic music and I believe for the most part this record works quit well.
